Cameron’s Animation Interview

Cameron: You can use it to make learning videos for your classroom. Cameron:Hello. My name is Cameron Coggeshall and today I will be interviewed by Mrs Mello. Mrs Mello: What is 2D Animation? Cameron: Jeff Lindbergh's book Animation says “2D Animation is the creation of moving pictures in two dimension witch can be accomplished using computers or through the traditional method of of hand drawing hundreds or even thousands of individual images or frames. These are then transferred onto clear plastic sheets called cells, colored by hand and filmed in sequence over a painted background image showing these frames at a rate of 24 or more per second results in the viewer seeing what appears to be a continuous motion”. Mrs Mello: How could I use 2D animation in the classroom? Cameron: You can use it to make learning videos for your classroom.

An example of 2D animation

Mrs Mello: I never thought of that. How much money do animators earn? Cameron: Animators salaries range from $31,000 to $100,000. Mrs Mello: That’s a lot of money. How do you do stop motion animation? Cameron: You shoot a single frame of a frozen object, then move the object slightly by hand then shoot another frame.

Mrs Mello: Cool! What is 3D animation? Cameron: Jeff Lenburg in his book Animation says that “3D Animation is the creation of moving in three dimensions with the additional dimension of depth that is lacking in 2D productions.” Over time, computers have made creating 3D animation easier.

An example of 3D animation

Mrs Mello: What is the name of a stop motion movie that you learned a lot about? Cameron: King Kong. Mrs Mello: Cool. How did they make it? Cameron: They made it by getting a gorilla figure and smaller buildings. Then they used stop motion to make King Kong climb the buildings. Mrs Mello: Wow. When was it finished? Cameron: In March of 1939.

Mrs Mello: Thank you for this interview Mrs Mello: Thank you for this interview. I learned a lot about animation. Cameron: You're welcome.
