Learning Targets: EE1: Rules of Exponents EE2: Evaluating Perfect Squares NS1 Rational Number versus Irrational & NS2: Approx. Irrational Roots • Exponential Notation is a way to express repeated products of the same number. Specifically, powers of 10 express very large and very small numbers in an economical manner. • Many numbers are not rational; the irrationals can be expressed only symbolically or approximately by using a close rational number. Examples include √2 ~ 1.41421… and π ~ 3.14159… • Square roots can be rational or irrational. • All real numbers, rational and irrational, can be plotted on a number line. Rational approximations of irrationals can be used to compare sizes, estimate locations on a number line and estimate values of expressions.

$10 or a Penny a Day EE1: Exponential Notation When would one be better than another? What if this was for the rest of your life? Does that change things?
