What is AP? The Advanced Placement Program, administered by The College Board and taught at Houston County High School, allows students to participate in college level courses and possibly earn college credit while also earning their high school credit.

Advanced Placement courses afford you the opportunity to: Why Choose AP? Advanced Placement courses afford you the opportunity to: earn college credit while attending high school through your AP Exam score, become more prepared for college by developing key academic skills, stand out in the college admission process, challenge yourself.

Why choose ap? AP Courses satisfy graduation requirements. AP teachers receive specialized training in the content of their courses as well as preparation for the AP Exam. Support for the college level course is available daily within the building. Support from peers also within the AP course.

How does an AP class compare to other high school courses? AP classes are more challenging and stimulating, but they do take more time and require more work. AP classes require self-motivated, disciplined students with a strong work ethic. All AP classes have 5 quality points added to the final average at the high school level, making it possible to score a 105. HOPE adds a .5 weight to the course when calculating GPA. Example: A student makes an 85 in the course. At the high school level, a 90 will post to the transcript and calculate into their GPA. For HOPE, an 85 will be calculated as a 3.5 versus a 3.0 for non-AP courses.
