AP Language and Composition Review of Key Terms and Concepts

Agenda: Bell Ringer Notes Review Review of major terms and concepts BLURT vocab game Group work time

Bell Ringer Think back on the Mock Exam we just completed. Write down the part you felt the most prepared for. Write down the part you felt the least prepared for. Write down 2 things you want to go over before the exam We have one free class period, so we will do a last minute crunch with terms of your choice like we did before ACT!

Notes Review Spend 10 minutes going through all your notes from this year Write down 5-8 terms or concepts that you feel you still need more help understanding.

Key Terms and Concepts Review Review the graphic organizer of all the AP key terms Highlight those that you feel you need to review before the test

BLURT! A Vocab Game We will play a game to review some key terms from AP Language Before the game begins, get into groups of 4-6. Everyone must be in a group and be actively participating. Prior to round 1, you and your group will get 5 minutes to preview the words and try to remember as many as you can. (You are competing AGAINST your group, so YOU need to individually learn the words) Identify one person in your group to be the judge/scorekeeper.

BLURT! Round 1: Place all your blurt cards inside your group’s envelope. To begin, one person in your group will pull ONE blurt card (don’t let anyone else see) That person may say ANYTHING to get your group to guess the word EXCEPT the word itself (this is like the game Taboo). You may not move on to the next card until your someone has guessed the word. The person in your team who first BLURTS the correct word out gets a point. When someone gets the first word, place that card on the table, pass the envelope to the next person, and they will do the same thing.

BLURT! Round 2: Lay all your BLURT words out for another 2 minute preview round. After the preview time is up, place all the words back in the envelope. Round 2 is charades, so the person giving the words can do any MOTION OR GESTURE to get people to guess the word, but they may not say anything. If the actor says anything, the judge can take a point away from their score. The first person to BLURT the correct word based on the acting gets the point. When a word is correctly guessed, lay that card on the table, pass the envelope, and continue the round for 5 minutes.

BLURT! Round 3: Lay all your BLURT words out for another 2 minute preview round. After the preview time is up, place all the words back in the envelope. During round 3, the word-giver is only allowed to say ONE SINGLE WORD to get their team to guess the correct vocab word. The single word CANNOT BE THE VOCAB WORD ITSELF. Once the word has been guessed and the point given, lay the card on the table and continue passing the envelope for 5 minutes. The person in your group with the most points at the end of round 3 is the winner!

Group Work Time Your second deadline is approaching. Make sure you have begun your research and have identified your key players/decision-makers. Everyone in your group should be actively contributing during work time.

Homework: Complete the Rhetorical Analysis essay analyzing Henry James’s theatre review of MacBeth.
