Princess Eugenie’s wedding causes royal stir Each week TFTD will look at a recent news article which effects you as students and members of society. If you have any suggestions or read any relevant or interesting articles, please speak to Mrs Richards to get them included. Princess Eugenie’s wedding causes royal stir This weekend saw Princess Eugenie from the Royal Family get married. The wedding was attended by 850 rich and famous guests. It was televised and 3.9 million people tuned in to watch. 4,000 people visited the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch in person. Whilst the cost of the wedding was covered by the Royal Family themselves, 50,000 campaigners have signed a petition protesting the fact that the wedding has cost the tax payer lots of money too. The wedding is expected to leave Police with a security bill for 2 million pounds. The public funds have had to cover the cost of policing traffic management and stewarding the event. Supporters of the Royal family explain that the amount of revenue brought into the UK from tourism and selling merchandise and press releases from the wedding will hugely exceed any spending and will help to boost the UK economy in the long run. Should the public tax payers money be used to help pay for the royal wedding? Why and how could the Royal wedding help the UK economy?
