Review Words – Fundations Grade 2 May 29, 2018 Owl Post PS 111 Wizards of 1-211 4440 West 53rd St. New York City Reading – We will be working harder learning about characters with this new If/Then Unit in reading for the month of June. Essential to this unit is explicit instruction in skills and strategies for “reading” characters, to grow ideas about them. As students work inside early chapter books, you will also support them in accumulating the story, linking chapters, and dealing with any difficulty they encounter. Small guided reading groups and strategy groups will meet this week to work on growing our reading super powers. Students have been assigned goals to help them with their big reading jobs! Writing – Writers will begin adding dialogue to their pieces. They will learn that they are to use many sentences to describe their characters in book 1 of their series. And we will work on revising our pieces to help us add more details and to make our pieces easier for our readers to read. This is a very exciting time as the students really enjoy developing their made up characters in their storiaes. Math – We will continue working on Topic C of Module 6. We will continue skipping lessons for those that do not need the constant repetition of adding two digit numbers to two digit numbers. We will work on adding a pair of two- digit numbers when the ones digits have a sum greater than 10 with drawing. Record the new ten below. Thank you to all the parents that made the Science Fair in our little classroom such a HUGE success! All of our visitors were very impressed. I know that they will all take the first prizes in next years Science Fair! In my opinion, everyone received first place ribbons this year! We will celebrate their hard work this Friday with a well deserved pizza party. I would like to organize another fun class picnic, for only our Wizards and families, sometime in June. We can all go to Clinton Park and enjoy the warm weather and the time together! Let me know when works well for you! Wizard Newsletter Word Study Words – Review Words – Fundations Grade 2 Move, none, school, something, used Reading Prompt of the Week – ”I believe that the lesson of my story will be…” Writing Prompt of the Week – Think and write about 5-8 possible problems your character can get into in your story since you’ve worked so hard at creating the wonderful setting for your character.
