I Want To Be Miss America. Julia Alvarez Groups Members’ Names: Kylee, Christin, and Kaylee.

Her first novel wasn’t published until she was 41. She learned how to speak English when she was 4 years old 3. Most of her writing is dedicated to her Dominican group. Julia Alvarez

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND The text was written in 1999 It was to show people how much of a struggle it was to be an American! Segregation and unfair treatment of migration between the whites and the Hispanic.

Summary In this story you hear about a family that just moved to America for the Dominican Republic. They have four daughters who love to watch the miss America pageant. They do whatever they can to like a American girl. The girls are sad they cant be a miss America because they are Hispanic. In the end the are proud of who they are!

RELEVANCE This Text is important to our country because it shows what our nation italicizes in women. Also, it shows to be thankful for who you are.
