Class Agenda 2/5/15 ACT Prep Lesson College Essay Writers’ Workshop Share and Storm Peer Review Exit Ticket Reflection CLO: Today you will, orally and in writing, develop and strengthen your writing by reviewing and evaluating another classmate’s college essay using a checklist and a writer’s workshop protocol and your outline and including the words or phrases “writing style (diction)”, “voice”, “effective writing”, and “tone”. Please write your name on the ch 5-6 summary sheet for Things Fall Apart. I will check this assignment throughout the period.

Peer Review Writers’ Workshop Part One Share and Storm Get out your rough draft of your college essay! Walk around the room and discuss with classmates: While writing this essay, I had a problem with ___________________________. I want to work on ______________________ when I revise this essay. I need help with __________________________ during the workshop today. Record your answer on Part One portion of your packet 4 minutes

Peer Review Writers’ Workshop Part Two: Peer Review with Protocol Overview Writer will read his or her essay out loud to the other two group members After the writer is done reading, he or she will exit and leave the classroom and complete an assignment in the hallway Things Fall Apart questions chapters 5-6 (may use book) You will use a separate sheet of paper to answer questions and turn this in to the basket The reviewers will follow the directions on the second page and use post-it notes to annotate essay with comments. Include the heading and comment on the post-it note and place it on the corresponding part of the essay. You will review these comments with the writer. 2 minutes 15 minutes 3 minutes
