Machiavelli (1469-1527) Italian guy- wrote the “Prince” Diplomat- student of politics Cynical about human nature -Felt man was basically bad -Motivated by fear- greed

As a leader it is better to be feared than loved. Might makes right—use any means necessary to keep control- terror, torture, secret police force. The Prince- the key to successful leadership is: lying, breaking treaties, and killing the right people. His policy- the end justifies the means
