What is a shared file on a LAN? A shared file on a local area network is a folder you create on the server to share information and resources with other computers throughout the school.

What are the benefits to using a shared file on a LAN? Sharing of resources for teachers and students Easy access to resources Efficiency (forms)

What are the steps to create a shared file on a LAN? First, you must find out what network drive(s) is available to you.

Locating Network Drives To see all drives available to you, double click the “My Computer” icon on the desktop.

What are the steps to create a shared file on a LAN? Next, double click the network drive available to you.

Network Drive Open the network drive available to you by double clicking.

What are the steps to create a shared file on a LAN? Third, right click in an empty space, select NEW, and click on FOLDER.

Right click, select NEW, click on FOLDER. Create the folder on the server. Right click, select NEW, click on FOLDER.

What are the steps to create a shared file on a LAN? Fourth, give the folder a name. You can create subfolders if you like. You could name the shared file “Library Resources.” Then you could create a file for teachers and a file for students.

Creating Subfolders Name the folder you created. To make subfolders, open the folder you created, right click in an empty space, select NEW, then click FOLDER. Name the subfolders.

What are the steps to create a shared file on a LAN? Fifth, begin compiling your resources. If it is a document, save it to your new shared file. Go to FILE, select SAVE AS, and locate your file. Internet sites are saved the same way. Once they are in your file, they are active as long as the computer accessing the file has internet access.

Compiling Resources To save a document or a website, go to FILE, select SAVE AS, locate the path for the folder you created (example I:\library resources\student resources), click SAVE.
