Warm up Directions: Write at least one paragraph about the prompt below. Setting the Mood How do authors and film-makers prepare their audience to be frightened? Haunted House What is scary... and what is not? Share your opinion on this spooky topic.

Where did English come from? Looking at language over time shows us that all languages are slowly changing all the time. Are there things that you say differently from your parents and grandparents? Make a list and discuss why this may be the case with your family.

How and why we read? What do you think about author’s original intentions and meaning? Are they important or not? Explain your answer.

Writing a summary Make sure that your summary is 5 sentences: -Introduction sentence (mentions what the article is generally about) -3 Middle sentences (with the important and specific details mentioned in the article) -Concluding Sentence (a statement of your opinion of the article)
