Capacity and Volume D6
Put together your straw Fill the sink about a quarter full of water. Measure 100 ml of water and pour it into the jug. Draw a line to show the water level Continue until the jar is full. Put the lid on Turn upside down in the sink of water and remove lid Put one end of your extended straw(2 together) into the bottle. Take a really deep breath
In to the straw, breathe out as much of your air as possible. Replace the lid, under the water. Estimate how many milliliters of are in the bottle. Record your results. Fill in your bar on our class bar graph
Note…Hilroy Volume and Capacity are used to measure the size of 3D objects Capacity - Litres(L) or millilitres(ml) are used to measure liquids or gases and the containers that hold them. (swimming pool, pop, soup, etc)
Volume – (cm 3 or m 3 ) are used to measure the amount of space an object occupies. You can convert between volume and capacity using: 1cm 3 = 1ml 1000cm 3 = 1L 1m 3 = 1000L
Convert 154cm 3 into ml (Volume to Capacity) We know 1cm 3 = 1ml so 154cm 3 = 154ml or 0.154L
Convert 7.6 m 3 into L (Volume to Capacity) We know 1m 3 = 1000L So 7.6m 3 = 7.6 X 1000 = 7.600L
Convert 7543L to m 3 (Volume to Capacity) We know 1000L = 1 m 3 So 7543/1000 = 7.543m 3
