Minimum Wage in Michigan Ashley Arnold, Amy Vang, Dillion Shelton, Gesan Isho

Before September 1, 2014 ---$7.40 After September 1, 2014 --- $8.15 In the 2014 State of the Union address, President Obama called on Congress to raise the national minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour, and soon after signed an Executive Order to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 for the individuals working on new federal service contracts.

When the minimum wage increases so does the cost of living. Increasing the minimum wage will not cause people to lose their jobs. Increasing the minimum wage is not bad for businesses- Academic research has shown that higher wages sharply reduce employee turnover which can reduce employment and training costs.

When there’s a higher minimum wage, “free lunches” at school will no longer be free.
