Reading: Monday 2-25 Read an independent reading book. (first 10 min) (Not The Giver) Have The Giver out and ready. We will read Chapter 7 as a class. HOMEWORK: Essay over Chapters 1-8 is DUE TOMORROW

Reading: Tuesday 2-26 I.J. 15 Turn in your essay at THE HUB. In your I.J. page 15, summarize what happened in Chapter 7-8 of The Giver. Read your independent reading book Have your I.J. open to page 15 and The Giver out ready to go.

CHAPTER 9 RESPONSE QUESTIONS: Reading: Tuesday 2-26 I.J. 15 CHAPTER 9 RESPONSE QUESTIONS: How do people start to treat Jonas now that he is the new Receiver? What do you think might have happened to the female receiver? Do you think other members of the community might lie? Explain your thinking.

Reading: Wednesday 2-27 Have a separate piece of paper out on your desk. WRITE YOUR NAME ON YOUR PAPER. Put everything away except a writing utensil. Have a different book out for when you finish the quiz.

POP QUIZ Chapters 9-10 Describe some of the rules that Jonas received in his new job. Which one is the strangest to you? Why? What does Jonas find strange about the Receiver’s dwelling? How does the Receiver transmit memories to Jonas? Why does Jonas have no concept of pain? When you finish, turn it in at THE HUB and read silently chapters 11-12.

Reading: Thursday 2-27 I.J. 16 Read Chapter 13. Then answer these questions in your I.J. 16: What do you think happened to all of the elephants in this world? What do you think The Giver means when he says, “Without the memories, it’s all meaningless”? Do you agree/ disagree? Why? When you finish, read Chapter 14 silently.

Reading: Friday 3-1 Have your Book Fair assignment ready with your name on it. Everything else should be packed up except for a writing utensil.
