Found Poem

What is it? Poetry you create using words from non poetry sources Newspaper/Magazine Articles Books Short Stories

How It Works: Read something that has words in it Look for words/phrases that you find powerful, moving, interesting Make a list of those words/phrases Go through and eliminate ones that you don’t like or that don’t seem to fit the others Consider the overall feeling/tone of the overall feeling of the final list when doing this

How It Works Continued: Take the words/phrases that you have left and arrange them in a way that makes a poem You can add punctuation, letters, tense changes Arrange the words so that they make a rhythm you like Be aware that chances are your poem will not rhyme
