HEALTH APPROACHES TO INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS To mainstream health in South Africa’s bilateral and multilateral initiatives; To promote and market South Africa’s health priorities as well as facilitate the understanding thereof; Establish and maintain relations with other countries and international organizations and partners such as AU, SADC, WHO; Identify and mobilise international resources to support national, regional, and continental policy objectives Interact and analyse international trends for the benefit of SA citizens; and

HEALTH APPROACHES TO INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Build strategic alliances and partnerships with global health partners, to enhance SA’s visibility in global health and thus contributing to shaping the global health agenda. HEALTH APPROACHES TO INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

NDOH EXPECTATIONS FROM OUR MISSIONS ABROAD Promote and market SA’s health priorities as outlined in the government’s national development framework: 2010-2014. Assist in identifying and mobilising international resources (financial, technological and knowledge-based) to support national, regional and continental policies and programme. Raise the profile of health issues on international agenda and integrate health into broader global developmental agenda. Build strategic alliances and partnerships with global health partners, to enhance SA’s visibility in global health and thus contributing to shaping the global health agenda. Working with Department in mapping activities in global health across all national government sectors and other stakeholders, and in establishing new mechanisms for developing a “national global health strategy”.

Foreign Service Bill, 2015 To provide the management, administration and functioning of the Foreign Service of the Republic of south Africa; to provide for the operational requirement that are suitable and supportive of the operations of the Foreign Service in a global environment; and to provide for the matters incidental thereto.

RECOMMENDATIONS The National Department of Health supports and accepts all the clauses of the Foreign Service Bill, 2015
