Presentation transcript:

Wednesday, April 17 Today's Objective: Observe ways that lenses refract light and bring objects into focus to form various images. Due today - Monday's assignment: Concepts Practice wksht Lenses/Optics Lab that you started yesterday. Reminders - Big test next week: waves/vibrations, sound, and light (Chapters 25-31) Portfolios will be due the day of the test. this coming Friday is a half-day.

How lenses work

Reminders for today's Optics lab: First Part - use the meter stick apparatus to measure the focal length of a lens (note: focal lengths are typically measured in mm; ie, distance of eyeglasses to retina). Second Part - use the optic kits (located on the counter) and a colored light to focus the letter "F" on the screen block (the screen block will have to be set several cm off the top of the kit). Third Part - Calculate the magnification of a lens - simply use one of the scraps of graph paper on the counter.

Reminders for Today: Finish the optics lab from yesterday. Demonstrate how a converging lens operates by drawing proper ray diagrams. Complete today's worksheet: Ch. 30 Lenses Turn in any other previous assignments. Objective: Observe ways that lenses refract light and bring objects into focus to form various images.
