Royal Colony A colony given to an individual (proprietor) by the British monarchy Sentence: North Carolina was a proprietary colony given by King Charles II to eight of his friends. A colony governed directly by the monarchy through a governor and council. Sentence: North Carolina became a Royal colony in 1729 because of all the unrest And conflict.
