A test of Engineering and Cooperation Skills Build a Bridge! A test of Engineering and Cooperation Skills

What do you know about how bridges are built? 1. Write the names of a few bridges you know. 2. Write what you know about how bridges are constructed. You can include a drawing. 3. Share with your partner.

The Rules! 1. Work with a table group. 2. Two pieces of paper per bridge, + 12 inches of tape. 3. Bridge will be built between 2 desks 4. The 2 desks must have 7 inches of space between them 4. No part of the bridge may be taped to the desks. 5. Quarters must only be placed in the middle of the bridge, none can be touching the desk. 6. The winning bridge will support the maximum number of quarters. Count how many quarters your bridge holds, before collapsing.

You will have 25 minutes to build your bridge “Build bridges instead of walls and you will have a friend” -MC Science Department You will have 25 minutes to build your bridge

What do Scientists and Engineers do? 1. Asking questions (for science) and defining problems (for engineering) 2. Developing and using models 3. Planning and carrying out investigations

What do Scientists and Engineers do? 4. Analyzing and interpreting data 5. Using mathematics and computational thinking 6. Constructing explanations (for science) and designing solutions (for engineering)

What do Scientists and Engineers Do? 7. Engaging in argument from evidence 8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
