What is Classification The action or process of classifying something according to shared qualities or characteristics. The arrangement of animals and plants in taxonomic groups according to their observed similarities.

Recap Homework Review: What is… Biodiversity Classification Species Kingdom Characteristic

Why do you think it is important to be able to classify?

How to Classify Classification can be done in two or more groups. In order for classification to be done effectively and correctly, each group must have a common characteristic, that the other does not have. For example, if I were to classify this class, I could classify the students by boys and girls. I could also classify the students by seasonal birthdays, students born in the spring would be in one group, students born in the summer would be in another group, students born in the winter would be in a group, and students born in the fall would be in another group.

Task In groups, classify objects in the classroom. You must classifying the objects first in two groups, then do another classification in three groups, and finally a third classification with three groups. Complete this on chart paper - NOTE brainstorm your ideas first!
