Warm Up Show how to add 1.4 + 0.7 using a number line. Explain your thinking.

Find Day 30, “Subtract Decimal Using Number Lines” in your notebook To train for the girl’s running club race, Gillian needs to run 4.5 miles this week. So far she has run 1.75 miles. How many miles does she still need to run in order to reach her goal? Subtraction Sentence: Estimate: How could we use the number line to model subtraction? 0 0.5 1.0 1.5 2.0

Find Day 30, “Subtract Decimals Using Number Lines p. 2” Scenario 2 Read the Problem Jack had 1.8 cups of baking soda to use to make his model volcanoes erupt for his science fair project. He used 0.9 of a cup practicing at home before the Science Fair. How much does he have left to use? You will need to change the number line markings since it isn’t practical to start at 0 for this question. Find Day 30, “Blank Number Lines” to show how to solve this problem using number lines

Blank Number Lines

Continue working You may work with a partner to complete scenarios 3 and 4. Once everyone has finished, we can share our answers using the Blank Number Lines slide.
