Pulling a Force

Remember… FORCE The push or pull of an object

Task… You will observe how your car moves, when a force is applied.

Materials In your bucket you need to get the: String, 2 paper clips, cup of weights, book end, car You will use these materials to create a falling weight system.

Directions You need to clear off your group area (long, flat surface) Place the bookend at one end of the table On the front of the car, attach one side of the string with the paper clip. Place the free side of the string with a paper clip on it through the hole in the bookend.

Follow the directions on your hand out to complete the rest of the tasks. Work together to complete this activity accurately.

Let’s Dicuss! Group 1 Group 2 Group 3 2 Washers What did you ob serve about the feel and how far your car traveled? 4 washers What did you ob serve about the feel and how far your car traveled 8 washers What did you ob serve about the feel and how far your car traveled 16 Washers/ 1 large What did you ob serve about the feel and how far your car traveled Group 1 Group 2 Group 3

Think about these… When did you discover your vehicle began to move? What caused your vehicle to move? Did your vehicle move differently when you changed the weight? What made the vehicle stop moving each time? For each different weight you used, how would you describe the motion of the vehicle?
