FOOD LAB Chemistry I Honors

You will be assigned an isotope of an element.

You must prepare an edible model of your isotope You must prepare an edible model of your isotope. It must contain the following things Correct number of protons Correct number of neutrons Correct number of electrons A key or legend indicating the difference between protons, neutrons, and electrons

Example - A large cookie with M&M’s as your component parts The green ones could be protons, the red ones neutrons, and the brown ones electrons. MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE A KEY DEFINING EACH. Another example might be a vegetable tray with different vegetables for each part..

DO NOT PUT THE NAME OF YOUR ISOTOPE ANYWHERE ON THE PRODUCT!!! You will have to determine the identity of each person’s isotope in class on the day the project is due.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS The food does not have to be “homemade.” It may be store bought and assembled at home. You may bring it to my room in the morning so that you do not have to carry it around with you all day.

GRADE This project will be a quiz grade 50% of the grade is for your food item 50% of the grade is for your identification of your classmates’ isotopes
