Comparing Governments Germany vs. United States Jake Platt Comparing Governments Germany vs. United States

Type of Government and Constitution Germanys leader, the president, has some of the same qualifications of our president. He is limited to 2, 5 year terms. He is elected just like our president. The office of president is open to all Germans who are entitled to vote in Bundestag elections and have reached the age of 40 They have upper and lowers in their house called the Bunderstrat (the upper) and the Bundestag (the lower). They are a bicameral parliament, and has 1,244 members. Strictest gun control, they have freedom of expression, and they have the freedom of religion.

Political Parties They have a two party system, the Centre-Right and the other Centre-Left. The Centre-Right grouping comprises two political parties that operate in different parts of the country so that there is no direct electoral competition between them. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) operates in all the Länder except Bavaria, while the Christian Social Union (CSU) operates only in Bavaria. The Centre-Left party is the Social Democratic Party (SPD in German).

Elections and Voting Article 38.2 of the Basic Law establishes universal suffrage: "Any person who has attained the age of eighteen shall be entitled to vote; any person who has attained the age of majority may be elected.“ Have them every 4 years, just like the U.S. All their elections are up at the same time, so when a primary election is going on, so are the general.

Taxes and Government Finances They have income tax just like the United States. With income tax being the largest, they also have tobacco tax, energy tax, trade tax, and value added tax. On healthcare they spent 287.3 billion Euros ($368.78 billion U.S. dollars) and the United States spent 2.6 trillion. Germany is $2,632,000,000,000.00 in debt. America is $13,060,000,000,000.00 debt.

Law Germany is ranked 3rd in crime rate and United States is ranked 1st. Germany has 74,908 prisons and the U. S. has 2,019,234. Germany does not use the death penalty and neither does America.

Current Relation with U.S. United States is regarded as one of the Federal Republic of Germany's closest allies and partners outside of the European Union
