Today’s Agenda Writing Warm-up: Letter to Self Project 1 Assignment Unit One Schedule Defining Literacy Acts/Events of Literacy Literacy Log Assignment Homework

Writing Warm-up (Letter to Self) Write a letter to yourself about the expectations of this course, and how you define yourself as a writer. In other words: What type of writer are you (creative, academic, business, etc)? Do you enjoy writing? Why or why not? Are you confident in your writing abilities? Why or why not? What are your expectations for this course? What are you hoping to learn from this course?

Project One Assignment The Project One assignment is posted on our course website in unit one.

Unit One Schedule The unit one daily schedule can be found on our course website in unit one.

Defining Literacy Group Discussion (for points this week) – Defining Literacy

Acts/Events of Literacy Finding/Reading a book Speaking a language or multiple languages Writing/Responding to Twitter Playing a video game Cooking and Baking Playing a board game Playing a Sport  Texting on your phone Listening to music

Groups – Acts of Literacy I had already listed some acts of literacy. Think about literacy events that you participate in or in which you have participated. As a group, make a list of different acts of literacy. Report back as a class.

Literacy Logs Until the next class, try to keep track of as many literacy events that you participate in as possible. The MORE events that you record, the EASIER it will be to help identify a theme for your first writing project. The literacy log worksheet can be found on our course website in Unit One. Due: In class – Wed. Jan. 18

Literacy Logs Start Time: End Time: Event Description and What is your goal? Location: Technology Used: Participants: Goal attained? Why or why not?

Homework Literacy Logs – Due in class on Wed. Jan.18 Homework: Reading: Read Hinton chapterhttp://writingspaces.org/essays/so-youve-got-a- writing-assignment Remember, we do NOT have class on Monday, Jan. 16, due to the university holiday.
