AGENDA: WARM-UP: Progressive Journal CONCEPT: Progressive Era INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Ch. 9-1 Worksheet VIDEO CLIP: America Story of Us – Cities HW: Immigration Experience Letter – DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY 11/12 Progressive Journal WARM-UP: (Follow the directions below) ***5 Minutes*** Answer the questions below in a paragraph journal entry. What is the minimum age that you think a child should be allowed to work? Should it be different for different types of jobs? How many hours a day should minors (under 18) be allowed to work?

IMMIGRATION EXPERIENCE LETTER OBJECTIVE: Describe the experience of immigrants moving to the U.S. and adjusting to their new life. DIRECTIONS: Write a letter as if you were an immigrant who migrated to the United States in the late 1800s. Refer to your lecture notes, and text book (P. 256-259 & 262-265) to write a letter to a family member describing the experience and difficulties faced upon arriving and living in the U.S. Be sure to include each of the topics listed below in your letter. DIRECT ELECTION OF SENATORS Before 1913, each state’s legislature had chosen its own U.S. senators To force senators to be more responsive to the public, progressives pushed for the popular election of senators As a result, Congress passed the 17th Amendment (1913)
