DeKalb Alternative School By Trellis Buckles Welcome to DeKalb Alternative School. My name is Trellis Buckles. Please enjoy the tour of my School’s Media Center.

Media Lab DeKalb Alternative Media Center was renovated three years ago. A grant was written and the school was one of the winners sponsored by the Atlanta Hawk’s Read to Success Project.

Media Lab The media center service students from grades 6th through 12th; thus, it is located between the middle school and high school wings. It was design to accommodate a 85% male student population labeled At-Risk.

Student Workstations The center has 30 up to date student workstations strategically located within the lab.

The reading zone is just that … a leisure reading area The reading zone is just that … a leisure reading area. It was designed for comfort and to entice students to want to sit and read.

The study zone is the “man cave” of use our technology to study.

Media Collection With the media center servicing middle and high school students, its collection is well diverse. The collection consists of over 3000 books nicely group by subject and labeled by Dewey Decimal Classification System.

Adolescent & Youth Collection With many of the students being low readers, the collection is based on books that are engaging as well as those that will improve their reading ability.

Fiction & Non Fiction Collection The center has a diverse collection of fiction and nonfiction. Books are arranged by subject yet classified as fiction or nonfiction.

Reference Collection The reference collection consists of ready reference books as well as your basic dictionaries, atlas, encyclopedia, and thesaurus.
