POWER VOCABULARY #6 MORE SAT WORDS!!!

EMERGE Come out into view, as from concealment. The suspect began to emerge from the dense woods after the dogs were released.

ENGROSS Consume all of one’s attention or time. I don’t know how long I was reading because I was engrossed in the book.

EXASPERATION A feeling of annoyance. Like many teenagers, Paris is still in bed, his mother explains with exasperation.

EXHILARATE Fill with sublime emotion. To see Yosemite Falls in the morning is truly exhilarating.

FORESIGHT Seeing ahead; knowing in advance. No one had the foresight that 09/11 could possibly happen.

FRAGRANCE A distinctive odor that is pleasant. The fragrance of cinnamon and pumpkin is popular in the fall.

FURTIVE Secret and sly. What furtive games do spies play?

GRUELING Characterized by effort to the point of exhaustion. Many college courses can prove grueling for students.

GUSTO Vigorous and enthusiastic enjoyment. Always approach every task with gusto that can be admired.

HABITATION The act of dwelling in or living permanently in a place. The rain forest is not a popular place for human habitation.

HASTEN Speed up progress; hurry. Rather than wait for something to happen, hasten it to occur.

HEADWAY Forward movement. Sometimes you feel frozen in place and not making any headway.
