M&M Math By: Jacob Warnock

Scientific Question What color of M&M’s can you see the most in each packet, a serving, and total?

Background I like M&M’s and I like math. M&M’s are my 3rd favorite candy.

Hypothesis If I choose a choc. M&M’s flavor bag, then red will show up the most.

Variables Independent (manipulated) Variable- Nothing Dependent Variable- Nothing Controls Variable- Size of bag of M&M’s

Procedure 1. Gather ingredients a. M&M’s bag b. Baggies c. Permanent marker 2. Open each packet 1 at a time 3. Short M&M’s by color 4. Do calculation for the serving and the color of M&M’s for each bag

Data Packet A-Red 2,Brown 2,Blue4,Green 5,Yellow 4,Orange 5,Most Color- Green and Orange Packet B-Red 2,Brown 1,Blue 5,Green 1,Yellow 3,Orange 4,Most Color-Blue Packet C-Red 2,Brown 2,Blue 5,Green 3,Yellow 3,Orange 3,Most Color-Blue Packet D-Red 1,Brown 4,Blue 8,Green 4,Yellow 0,Orange 3,Most Color-Blue Packet E-Red 2,Brown 1,Blue 4,Green 4,Yellow 2,Orange 5,Most Color- Orange Packet F-Red 2,Brown 5,Blue1,Green 3, Yellow 3,Orange 3,Most Color- Brown

Data

Conclusion 1. What color of M&M’s will show up the most in each packet, a serving, and total? 2. I took half a bag of M&M’s and I counted the M&M’s. 3. Blue 30, Orange 23, Green 20, Yellow and Brown 15, Red 11. 4. My hypothesis was wrong. Red showed up the less not the most. 5. All but Packet D had 2 red and more than 1 yellow. 6. No. None. Nothing.
