Epitaph Poem

What is an Epitaph Poem? Epitaph poetry is used to honor those who have passed away and is written on their tombstone. A good epitaph poem sums up an important message about the person’s life, or a core aspect of their personality.

Epitaph for Miss Miles Here lies a teacher beloved by most, Whose students would always boast That she who gave knowledge made them feel less uneasy, But also, her jokes, were just a little bit cheesy.

Writing your epitaph poem Brainstorming your poem: Poem Prompt: Various dead characters in the novel are introduced with their epitaphs. Write an epitaph poem for Bod, Silas, Jack, Miss Lupescu, or for yourself, or for a friend. Write down a list of qualities of the person. Create a detailed list of accomplishments. Ask yourself what the person would want said about herself to others in a crowd. Look for a way to weave humor into the poem.
