WE are SPARTANS!

st hour Who were the SPARTANS really? As you watch the clip, please LIST adjectives (on a lined sheet of paper that you will bring to 2nd hour) that describe the best of the ancient Spartans. For example: Were they brave? Dedicated? http://www.history.com/videos/spartans#spartans (Works best in Internet Explorer)

nd HOUR Review Clip Discussion Questions Why were the Spartans looked upon as tough? They were thought of as the best warriors. If they weren’t fighting to expand their territory, what were they fighting for? TO PROTECT and RESPECT EACH OTHER…THEY WERE UNITED IN THEIR CAUSE! Please give an example(s) for each of the following questions on your lined sheet of paper from 1st hour. 1. Do you feel that Sparta respected physical fitness? 2. Do you feel that Sparta respected each other as Spartans? 3. Do you feel that one had to be mentally tough to be a Spartan? Please give to your 2nd hour teacher following the discussion.

rd Hour The FITZGERALD HIGH SCHOOL mascot is the SPARTAN. We are SPARTANS when we come into this school. On the LEFT side of the poster, please list ALL the qualities we hope to see in fellow FITZGERALD SPARTAN students. (For Example: Determined, a Desire to learn etc.) On the RIGHT side of the poster, please list ALL the ways we can show respect to each other in the building/hallways. (For Example: Hold the door for someone, pick up trash etc.)

th HOUR THINK.RESPECT….What do you think this phrase is asking us to do? This year we will be asking you to THINK RESPECT not only for each other but for yourself. We need to encourage each other to be our best, just as the Ancient Spartans did. HOW? Writing your GOAL on your ID. We want you to ask yourself what do I want to accomplish this year? You will be receiving Think.Respect items (Tshirts/backpacks) next week Monthly themes about how to respect others and yourself will be discussed in your classes on a regular basis. FRIDAYS…Every Friday students that wear blue and gold, their think.respect t-shirt, or dresses professionally will receive a SPARTAN BUCK in their 1st hour.

th HOUR REVIEW DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Who were the ANCIENT SPARTANS? How can we show respect for each other? THINK about yourself for a moment with the next activity. With the THINK.RESPECT Postcards, please write your name at the top of the blank side. For the next few minutes, write down the goal that you would like to accomplish this year and EXPLAIN WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU…In other words what will motivate you to keep going for it? Please give the postcards to your teachers when you are done.
