Nuclear Fission History 1930- Enrico Fermi Thought bombarding a nucleus with a neutron would create a bigger atom. 1938- Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann Found that when a neutron strikes a nucleus, the nucleus splits into 2 smaller nuclei. 1939- Lise Meitner First to offer a theory to explain the above results.
