Learning about Listening

Skill #1: Show interest by FACING THE SPEAKER Make eye contact with the person talking.

Listening Looks Like . . . Facing the person Looking at the person Nodding Looking confused Sounds like . . . One person’s voice Saying “uh-huh” Asking questions Making comments

Skill #2: THINK about what is being said. Think about what the person is telling you.

Skill #3: Let the person finish speaking. Let the person finish speaking. Then, ask a question or make a comment. Answer the speaker if he/she asks you a question. Do not interrupt!
