Communism in Russia During WW1 Russia fought on the side of the central powers Suffered deaths of three million soldiers and civilians Death and massive food shortages made the war very unpopular with the common people of Russia

In 1917 the October revolution ousted Tsar Nicolas II and after a short period Lenin and the Bolshevik party gained control of Russia The Bolsheviks under Vladamir Lenin gained much of their popularity by promising the people ‘Peace, land and bread’ and started to implement the Ideals of communism
