Points, Lines, and Rays Extra Strategies These questions were taken from an SI printable worksheet on Points, Lines and Rays. Work through the solutions with the students, and show them how to narrow down the options. The wording on this particular assessment is kind of tricky, so you might have to explain a little more as you go through the questions. (See notes on the slides)

A line has no endpoints and goes on forever in both directions. It always has arrows at both ends.

A point has no length, width, or depth. Point and Endpoint A point can mark a place on a line. An endpoint is where both ends of the line segment stop. They are usually drawn to look like dots. Length Width Depth A point has no length, width, or depth.

A line segment is a line with an endpoint at each end.

Ray Think of a SUN RAY! A ray is a line with only one endpoint, and continues outward in one direction. One end has an endpoint and the other has an arrow. It reminds me of a sunray!

Parallel lines are lines in the same plane that do not intersect Parallel lines are lines in the same plane that do not intersect. Parallel lines have no points in common.

Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect and form right angles Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect and form right angles. Perpendicular lines have only one point in common.
