Hot Dog Mummification By ~ Gabby Dotson
Scientific Question Is it possible to preserve a hot dog and what variables will change in the process??
Background Have you ever wondered about how things were preserved?? Well its something I've always wondered about, especially when it comes to stuff like human flesh. After I did a little research I figured that a hot dog would be the best substitute.
Hypothesis If I roll two hot dogs (Sugardale and Bar S) in baking soda then Sugardale should mummify the best by shrinking in size and circumference.
Variables Dependent~Which type of hot dog mummified the best Independent~Type of hot dogs used Controlled~ How long the hot dog was sealed, the type of hot dog and the environment
Procedure 1. Roll two hot dogs in baking soda 2. Put the two hot dogs in separate containers and cover them with more baking soda then seal for 1 week 3. After week 1 clean out old baking soda record data and repeat step 2 4. After 2 week record the data and compare results from week 1 to week 2 for both hot dogs 5.compare results of Sugardale and Bar S
Sugardale Results
Bar S Results
Conclusion In conclusion we can see that once you hold a hot dog in baking soda for 1 week there is not much change. After about two weeks you will see various changes we did not see before. One thing that I noticed for sure is the smell and the look. As the hot dog got dehydrated it caused the hot dog to get very firm and smell. The second thing I noticed is the circumference and length which shrank in size quite a bit over the past two weeks. Although this was an unpleasant experiment it was still a very interesting project to interact with.
