Warm-Up: Tuesday, November 18 PAGE 270 Objective: To do a "test run" of book clubs before doing the real thing on Thursday. Question: What symbols are there in “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros?

Lit Circle Worksheets Take 25 Minutes to finish (or attempt to finish) your worksheet for the role that you have chosen for today’s Literature Circles.

Focus Questions: For Discussion Directors: What kind of person do you think Rachel is? What do you think Rachel values based off of her actions?

Before Starting While other group members are talking, take notes on what they say on PAGE 271.

Literature Circles, Part I Discussion Director: Discuss “Eleven”’s two focus questions. Review your three vocabulary words. Have other group members copy down the words and definitions on their vocabulary list. (5 Minutes)

Literature Circle, Part II Summarizer: Read your summary to your group. As a group, decide upon which three events to include in the storyboard. (3 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part III Investigator: Share your character profile for Rachel. As a group, decide upon which three details belong on the character profile. (3 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part IV Connector: Share passages from “A. Passages on author’s style.” As a group, decide on which three literary devices should go on the Author Style Page. (3 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part V Connector: Share your theme chart with your group. As a group, decide on which literary three devices should be added to the theme page. (3 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part VI Discussion Director: Ask each member of the group for comments/questions regarding the short story. (2 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part VII Discussion Director: Fill out the Group Record Sheet, with input from every group member. (5 Minutes) Mr. Zhao will collect this today; this is your exit slip.
