Do Now Imagine if you were a colonist in the 1770s. Would you support a war for independence from Great Britain? Why or why not?

B. Division Not all colonists supported the push for independence. Loyalists – colonists who remained loyal to the King and opposed to independence. How many Loyalists were there? Usually wealthier people, merchants, or people more active in the Anglican Church. Why do you think these groups of people were more likely to be loyal?
