Lens Equations

Lens Equations These are no different than the equations for spherical mirrors!!!

Practice Problem If a converging lens has a focal length of 10cm and an object distance of 5 cm find the image distance and magnification. 1/5 + 1/di = 1/10 1/di= 1/10-1/5= -1/10 di= -10 cm M= -di/do= -(-10)/5= 2 Image is virtual, Magnified and Upright

More Complex Lenses For lenses that are not double concave or convex the lens makers equation can be used. r= radius of curvature Convex r is positive, concave r is negative If it is flat on one side r= infinity This will not be on the test just wanted to show the idea!!!
