Warm Ups 9-3 through 9-5
Tuesday 9/2 A virus is a single stand of hereditary material that is surrounded by proteins. Viruses need a host cell in order to make copies of itself. There are two types of viruses- active and latent. What do you think that these terms mean?
Answer to 9/2 WU An active virus enters the hosts cell and forces it to reproduce the virus, destroying the host cells in the process A latent virus can live within the hosts cell for long periods of time. Every time the host cell reproduces itself, it carries the virus with it. Once conditions are just right, the virus converts to an active virus and begins to destroy host cells. It can change from latent to active and back to latent many times.
Wednesday 9/3 Who first used the term “cells” when looking at pieces of cork and why did they use this term?
