Map Coordinates Review. Equator A line that divides the planet into northern and southern hemispheres Has a measure of 0 degrees of Latitude.
 Distance measure in degrees- from 0 o to 90 o North or South of the equator  Equator- primary reference point  Lines are called parallels- form complete.

Lines of Latitude and Longitude

Rotation vs Revolution The first thing you must note is that the earth rotates from WEST to EAST

Rotation vs Revolution LINES OF LATITUDE LINES OF LONGITUDE Run from east to west Run from north to south Main line is the Equator Main line is the Prime Meridian The Equator divides the earth into the Northern and Southern hemisphere. The Prime Meridian divides the earth into the Eastern and Western hemisphere. They are parallel They are not parallel they meet at the poles. They determine climatic zones They help to calculate time. They are imaginary lines They determine the location of places.

Lines of Latitude

Lines of Longitude

Lines of Latitude and Longitude Lines of latitude are determined by its position north or south of the equator, hence North Latitude and South Latitude. A place is therefore, north or south latitude.

Lines of Latitude and Longitude Longitude determines the position of a place, and so lines running east of the Greenwich Meridian are termed, east longitude. Those to the west are west longitude. PRACTICE activities in the SKILLS IN GEOGRAPHY BOOK
