Post-operative splinting to maintain full extension of the PIPJ after fasciectomy  Tom Clare, Anita Hazari, Harry Belcher  British Journal of Plastic Surgery  Volume 57, Issue 2, Pages 179-180 (March 2004) DOI: 10.1016/j.bjps.2003.11.013

Figure 1 Schematic diagram: with only velband and crepe dorsally a simple volar slab may fail to prevent PIPJ flexion (above). With the addition of the dorsal part of the slab, three point cast pressure (arrows) is achieved, holding the PIPJ securely in extension (below). British Journal of Plastic Surgery 2004 57, 179-180DOI: (10.1016/j.bjps.2003.11.013)

Figure 2 Splint construction: (a) A basic four to six layer slab of plaster of Paris or synthetic casting material is made. (b) A simple fold avoids the difficulty and delay in cutting and constructing a second slab as well as anchoring the two limbs of the slab together. (c) The L shaped slab is completed. British Journal of Plastic Surgery 2004 57, 179-180DOI: (10.1016/j.bjps.2003.11.013)

Figure 3 Splint application: (a) Velband is applied to protect the skin. (b) and (c) The slab is positioned with its long arm along the volar aspect and its short arm wrapped around the ulnar and dorsal aspect of the little finger and including any other involved digit. (d) The splint is held in place with a crepe bandage and moulded while it sets. British Journal of Plastic Surgery 2004 57, 179-180DOI: (10.1016/j.bjps.2003.11.013)
