Author of the Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776. Secretary of State in George Washington's cabinet. 3rd U.S. President 1801- 1809. 1803 Louisiana Purchase more than doubled the size of the United States. Purchased from France for 15 million dollars. It came out to a few cents and acre. Thomas Jefferson 1743-1826

16th President of the United States 1861-1865. He was president during the Civil War. Gettysburg Address was his Second Inaugural Address. Emancipation Proclamation 1863 declared that all slaves in states currently in rebellion were free Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865
