Carbon and Nitrogen cycles and human impacts on each

equations

Humans affect the carbon cycle by 1. burning fossil fuels and 2 Humans affect the carbon cycle by 1. burning fossil fuels and 2. deforestation The effects are extra carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere and less carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere. Global warming results from these and other “greenhouse gasses” which trap heat under the atmosphere.

Humans impact the nitrogen cycle by adding fertilizers (containing nitrogen compounds) to the soil. The effect is that crops grow more—leading to a higher human population. Another effect is that fertilizers and other plant nutrients that run off into water cause eutrophication

eutrophication Excess fertilizers cause algal bloom The algal bloom initially produces lots of oxygen, but there is too much algae. The algae dies and decomposes. The decomposers deplete the oxygen in the water. Fish kills result.
