WORK. What is it? Writing this report is hard work! Shoveling the walkway is hard work! Becoming good at the violin takes a lot of work. What do you do.
Work is the product of the force and the distance through which the object moves W = F x d W = F x d.

Work F The force, F, pushes the box for a short distance. This causes the box to start moving!!!!!! It gains energy!!!! I just don’t have any energy 
Work. What is work? In science, the word work has a different meaning than you may be familiar with. The scientific definition of work is: using a force.

Work and Power. Work: In physics we say that work is done on an object if a force is applied to it and that force causes it to move a certain distance.

Work AP style. Energy Energy: the currency of the universe. Everything has to be “paid for” with energy. Energy can’t be created or destroyed, but it.
Work and energy. Objectives 1.Recognize the difference between the scientific and the ordinary definitions of work. 2.Define work, relating it to force.
What is Work?. Work Demo One student pushes against the wall. One student pulls up a set of keys Who does more work? Why? Who was applying more force?

Essential Question: What is work (in physics)?
A force of 15 newtons is used to push a box along the floor a distance of 3 meters. How much work was done in this situation?
Work Work is a scalar quantity and has the following conditions: a force must be exerted on an object the object must be displaced by the force at least.

Work demo. EWPM The relationship between force and distance has a name. WORK.
What is it? How is it calculated? How is it measured? Work.
WHAT IS WORK?. Work when you exert a force on an object that causes the object to move some distance Work is done when the object moves in the same direction.
Energy, Work and Power. Energy Energy: the currency of the universe. Just like money, it comes in many forms! Everything that is accomplished has to be.
POWER: What is it?.
Work and Power Questions and Answers. 1.A student lifts a box of books that weighs 185 N. The box is lifted m. How much work does the student do.
Calculating Work. Work = force x distance W=f x d Unit of Measurement for Work is Joules Unit of Measurement for Force is Newtons Unit of Measurement.
Understanding and Calculating Work Work - When a force acts on an object and causes it to move through a distance, energy is transferred and work is done.
FORCE – PUSH OR PULL The unit of measurement for force is the Newton (N)

Review a few things first

The formula for Work W = Fd

Examples of Work

Non - Examples of Work

Tricks

Example 1: You discover a box of rocks in middle of your room Example 1: You discover a box of rocks in middle of your room. You apply an effort force of 65N to push them 2 meters so they are against the wall. How much work have you done? W = Fd W = 65N x 2m W = 130 J

Example 2: You now have a box of rocks against the wall of your room Example 2: You now have a box of rocks against the wall of your room. You decide you like them where they originally were and push them back to the middle of the room. Now how much work have you done to push them back?

Example 3: The rocks are now in the middle of the room Example 3: The rocks are now in the middle of the room. You decide to lift them straight up 0.8 m and carry them across 5 meters across the room. Now how much work have you done (lifting and carrying)? The rocks have a mass of 25 kg.

Example 4: Who has done more work? Stephanie pushes a 20 kg box with a net force of 60N. She moves it 30 m across the floor in 5 seconds. Dustyn pushes a 20 kg box with a net force of 72N. He moves it 25 m across the floor in 4 seconds. 1800 J 360 W 1800 J 450 W
