Types Circuit Diagrams Circuits Types Circuit Diagrams

Recall A circuit is a closed path of conducting material Electricity cannot flow unless a circuit is present A circuit includes Power source Conducting wires Load

Types of Circuits Series circuit Parallel circuit

Series Circuit One path If one device burns out, circuit is incomplete and does not work Current is the same everywhere Example: old Christmas lights

Parallel Circuit More than one path If one device goes out, the rest are unaffected Current is the sum of the currents from all paths Example: the plugs in your home

Circuit Diagrams Use symbols to represent circuit arrangement

Circuit Diagram Examples

Circuit Diagram Examples

Rules for Drawing Circuit Diagrams Use a PENCIL Use a RULER to draw CONDUCTING WIRES Wires are always PERPENDICULAR and PARALLEL Loads appear in the same order in the circuit diagram as stated in a question Switches are ON if the current is flowing Mark the positive and negative ends of the Cell Battery Voltmeter Ammeter Indicate the direction of flow of current with an arrow and the symbol e-

Circuit Symbols Name Diagram Conducting wire Wires joined Wires not joined Cell Battery with 3 cells Lamp Resistor
