What are Egypt’s two main problems? Warm-Up: What are Egypt’s two main problems? How did Egyptians in the Old Kingdom treat their Pharaoh? Why did they act this way? What natural barriers protected people living along the Nile River?

Middle Kingdom (2040-1633 B.C.E.) 2300 B.C.E.- Government officials took control of Egypt from Pharaohs. Led to 200 years of confusion. New pharaohs took power in 2040 B.C.E.  had less power than before. No pyramids  buried in tombs cut into cliffs. Trade with other areas beyond Nile developed.

1786 B.C.E. – Egypt invaded by Hyksos, a people from western Asia. Hyksos had horse drawn chariots and weapons made of bronze and iron. Defeated Egyptians on foot with weapons made of copper and stone. Hyksos ruled for 150 years until defeated by Egyptian prince Ahmose (ah mo’ suh) who used Hyksos weapons.
