Scientific Method Questions and Answers

What is scientific method? Scientific method is a process or a guideline for scientists to do their experiments.

What are 2 variables in the experimental group? Independent Variable: Dependent variable: A change in the experiment A result of the change in the experiment

What is conclusion? A conclusion is a summary of data. It’s includes if the hypothesis was supported or refuted and the reasoning behind the experiment.

What are 5 steps involved in the scientific method? Problem Hypothesis Experiment Data Conclusion

What is a problem? Problem- is a question(?) about something. The question can be about anything. Question: What will happen if I add oil to water? Will it increase or decrease surface tension of water?

What is hypothesis? Hypothesis - is an answer to the question (the problem). It’s a guess or prediction.

What is an educated hypothesis? Educated hypothesis, guess or prediction is a hypothesis based on reading a book, a scientific article, scientific journal or internet.

What is a variable? Variable is a factor or anything that influences the outcome of the experiment. Examples are: amount of salt, time of heating, temperature of water, kind of plant etc.

What is data? Data is the collection of information (numbers or observations).

What are two groups in the experiment? Control group Experimental group

What is a control group? A control group is an experiment in where a scientist made no change.

What is an experimental group? An experimental group is an experiment in where a scientist made a change to test his hypothesis. He/she changed one variable to see the result.

What is theory? When a hypothesis was tested many times with the same result, over time, it will become a theory.
