Temperance ( N ) - abstinence from drinking alcohol Many religious groups in the early 20th century practiced temperance because many felt alcohol was destroying the family unit.

Consumption ( N ) – the act of eating or drinking The consumption and production of alcohol did not decrease during Prohibition because many Americans saw it as an opportunity to make money.
