Aim: What to NEVER EVER do and what to ALWAYS do when writing an argument and/or using textual evidence Do Now: When it comes to the above, what do you think is an ALWAYS and what do you think is a NEVER EVER?

NEVER EVER NEVER write “I think” or “I” or “me” or “My opinion” NEVER write “In the book it states” what is this magical “it” doing the stating? Stop it!!!! NEVER stick a floating quotation in your writing--introduce your evidence!! NEVER call an author by his or her first name! Are you two BFF?? I don’t think so.

ALWAYS ALWAYS introduce a quotation. Say something like: Smith writes, “djkfsd” (p. 4). ALWAYS explain and contextualize evidence. After quotes you can write “This means x, y, and z” ALWAYS be precise!! No one needs an epic turned in for a homework assignment
